Not our first day of school

My facebook feed is full of back to school fun today, and I wish all the little (and not so little) students the best!

We aren’t starting back at school until next week, but I thought I’d post a run down of our planned materials for Justus’s SK year…

On recommendation from Jody Toombs, we are going with Leading Little Ones to God for our devotions.

For phonics/reading materials, I’m using a couple different books…

Our basic curriculum, A Beka’s K5 Letters and Sounds workbook.

Explode the Code for more writing practice and letter recognition.

My favourite (and all that’s really needed to teach a little one to read), A handbook for Reading and a Blend work book for practice.

We’ll be using A Beka readers and BOB readers.

For math this year we are using A Beka’s K5 workbook and numbers writing tablet.

We also picked up A Beka’s social studies workbook and this science book.

I also downloaded a million free montessori resources and spent countless hours cutting and laminating and cutting again. (thanks Rebecca Coyne for the link) Got some great stuff, like these for example….

And a few fun school games/activities like these:

With lots more to come as the year progresses!

I know it looks like a lot of workbooks, and it is. But we discovered last year that it’s kind of our style. The ones we are using this year are bright and colourful and we are looking forward to digging in! We are planning on 3 mornings a week, with lots of fun and playing and learning on those 3 mornings AND the rest of the week! :) I have to say that I am more convinced and excited about homeschooling than I have ever been. Can’t wait until Monday!!

I’ll spill the details on everything I’ve gathered to keep the June Bug busy during our school times tomorrow. Crossing my fingers they work! :) She’s already had a run in with school supplies… discovered that she thinks purple glue sticks look like make up!
glue face
sigh.

I know you are sort of excited and apprehensive at the same time, but I know that you are going to do great. I love you and I’m proud of you for doing this for our family!
