a little dose of squee

I made the mistake of checking out the animal section on pinterest for the first time today. Oh. My. Word. Cute Overload!!!!!

This post is for my daughter.

Hey! It looks like one of my babies!

I must be feeling the animal love today because we hung out for awhile at Pet Smart to play with the kitties and check out all the dogs getting haircuts. I think we have officially chosen a dog breed in the chance that we one day take the plunge into dog ownership.

This is what we would LOVE to have:

I think Australian Shepherds are ridiculously cute! Only…. they may be just a touch too active for us… So I think it’s more likely we will end up with this:

Only one though! No basketful thanks! I think we’ve settled on a Golden Retriever. Or perhaps a Golden Retriever/Lab cross. They are slightly bigger than we would like, but have a temperament that suits us. And it’s a compromise on what we find appealing looks-wise. I like all kinds of spaniels, spaniel-poodle crosses, hounds, etc. Jon hates all dogs excessively (which shows you what a lovely dad he is… hates dogs but wants his kids to be able to have one!), but he doesn’t mind the look of labs, huskies, golden retrievers, and mastiffs. So in a retriever I get that sweet, droopy eared face I love, he gets the nice big family dog he can possibly stand…. just barely. lol

The jury is still out on whether it will happen at all. Dogs are SO MUCH WORK! and money! But I can’t get over the thought of having a companion for my Rusty. As much as Juno loves animals, Justus is the kind of boy that needs a dog. He is loving, tender, can’t stand being alone and loves to run and play. Plus, a giant yard in the country is just begging for a dog, how could we not?!
