10 years!

10 years ago today I married my best friend.

I fell in love with him one night in Tasmania, overlooking the harbour in Hobart…

But I didn’t know it yet, it took me another month or two before I broke all my dating “rules” and finally sent Jon this email:
“Um. Before I chicken out… I was thinking maybe that if you wanted we could go do something tomorrow night instead of the hike thing. Cause I would much rather hang out with you than go hiking in the cold with Daniel and Avery and all the girls. What do you think? If not, that is cool, I’d understand, but I was just thinking that it might be more fun, and give us a chance to catch up on the last few days of “being distant”. (oh and I don’t know if I specified really, I mean just us, and not the “other two”.) So what do you say? We could catch a movie and see if we can’t break the bad movie pattern, or maybe have dinner, or go for a walk, or you know, anything! Well, I guess if you want to, just give me a ring tomorrow sometime. Or if I don’t hear from you, I am sure Lex and I will call about hanging out in the afternoon anyway.”
Just reeks of confidence doesn’t it? Why wouldn’t he want to go on a date with me?! 😉

Well… obviously he was as love struck as I was because this was his response:
“And the award goes to Christa Millar for this email entry. Well done Christa, winner of this years “Best idea that Jon Sodeman has heard in years award”. Christa, it’s a date, I can think of nothing better than spending some good old fashioned quality time with you. You will hear from me ASAP.”

So we went on a date. He took me to see Planet of the Apes. We did not break our bad movies pattern that night. The date was kind of average, we were both so nervous all the sudden, he tried to kiss me… I turned my face away (I’ve got mad skills when it comes to that, ask him!). 🙂

But we tried again the next week and that’s when we had our DTR moment up at Skye in Adelaide on the famous “bench of confession”…

On October 14, 2001, Jon Sodeman and Christa Millar became Jon and Christa. We had no idea if we would break up in a couple weeks when I moved back home to Canada, no idea that we were starting something that would last.
We were young and silly and ridiculously in love with each other.

On February 15, 2003 we held hands, said our vows and become one!

Thankful to say that though not quite so young anymore, we are still silly and ridiculously in love with each other.

Jon Sodeman, you are by far my favourite.

Familiarity breeds boredom only to the blind and the real seekers know the worth of vows worn polish smooth with all the days.

True love makes me cry (in a good way).

I love you both so much as your own people, but as the always-wise Jack Johnson would sing, you really are so much better when you’re together.

    Happy 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!! 🙂 enjoy reading peoples ‘love stories’ and how their love continues to grow and deepen yet keeps that ‘special young love’ quality as well. From two people still crazy in love with each other after 44+ years! <3
