My Daughter

sleep

This sleeping beauty is my precious gift from God. One of her middle names, Eden, means delight. She is most definitely a delightful creature; also a passionate, strong-willed, raging, tender, filled with the zest of life creature. Her good moods are as equally powerful as her bad ones. Some days I wonder how on earth I will be able to tame the wild beast, and others I wonder how God fit that much sweetness in her little body.

The one thing I do know is that God chose me to be her mother. My very top priority as her mother is to teach her to fear the Lord.  I am not adequate to tackle the job, but He gave it to me nonetheless. Many days I wonder if God gave her to me simply to force me to rely on His strength and His promises.

“My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.” Psalm 63:8

“Behold, God is my helper; The Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” Psalm 54:4

I tell you the truth, before Juno came into my life I did not know the sweet relief of complete surrender and reliance on Christ.  Her highs and lows drive me to find strength and stability in Him.  Being her mother has taught me that true, lasting delight is found in Jesus alone.

O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

PS  I risked life and limb to get this photo today.  Well, maybe not life and limb, but certainly an afternoon of screaming!  I had to dodge a noisy baby gate, climb gingerly on top of a crinkly plastic undersheet, remove numerous stuffed animals from around her dear little face, remember to hold down the flash, and pray the click of the camera didn’t disturb her, then get out fast!  But look at my darling, frowning even in sleep… it was worth the risk!
