totally dropped the blog ball

It’s been about a week since my last post… whoops! I honestly got so crazy busy the last few days of Jon’s trip that I was falling into bed around midnight and could not even think of blogging! Anyway! They are home safe and had a wonderful trip! We missed them and it’s fun to be reunited! 🙂

Tomorrow afternoon we are off to Niagara Falls for a one night getaway… with the kids. We couldn’t find a babysitter so our romantic plans now include 2 little people. Actually, it works out just fine, the hotel has a pool and we will all have a blast and enjoy the time together. The kids are getting to an age when it is super fun to take them away… we jump on hotel beds, eat junk and laugh a lot. And we get to see Juno cuddle Justus to death after he falls asleep. Sharing a bed with her big brother is like the greatest treat ever in her little world!

In other fun happenings… I’m currently trying to figure out what kind of open shelving to put in the new kitchen and what colour… all advice appreciated, although I can’t promise I will take it… I’ve already called in the big guns (Sarah Greydanus – design guru). I’m eagerly awaiting her input! 🙂 But just for kicks… here are the kitchen pics again…
The combo of the tile “backsplash”, countertop, cabinet colour, and flooring makes me slightly crazy and I am having a hard time seeing past it. Especially because our current budget is a work-with-what-you-got scenario. I will at some point be painting the cupboards at the very least. Perhaps grey, or charcoal, or black or a creamy white. How’s that for specific? So… if you needed more shelving asap (the lower cabinets will not hold everything because they also double as my pantry at the moment), and had a very small budget… what would you do?

At the moment I am thinking 2 levels of dark shelves with stainless steel brackets. Subject to change upon anything Sarah Greydanus might suggest.

Now I’m thinking I need to repeat either the butcher block or base cabinet future colour in the shelving… ???

Don’t feel bad… I figured in all the packing frenzy your computer was first to go in a box! (Yeah, right!) No pressure on poor Sarah, I see! I’m more of a “I have to see it to have some idea” type of person, so no real good advice here. You already decorate so beautifully! Have a great night away… we’re doing that too but I’m not sure where Mark is taking me. Maybe we’ll see you in our travels? That would be hilarious.

I like the floating shelf idea too.. 😀

I had no idea…until you cut the bottom of that picture off..then….in my head it was out of a magazine with a dark (charcoal or black) cabinet colour…..and…I’d do that up top with shelves too…

…. awaiting the final answer….to see if I’ve grown any design sense Since both you and Sarah are my design “teachers” 🙂
