Today was actually quite a wonderful day! Despite an early and repeated wake up call from Rusty (NO FOR THE !5th TIME I WILL NOT GET OUT OF BED AT 6am TO HELP YOU BEAT LEVELS OF PAPER MARIO. (thank you very much Aunt Janine for that treat. lol)). When I finally did get up I had my coffee, we got a little school done, finally helped him complete another Paper Mario level, tidied the house, gave the kitties good morning cuddles, watered the garden, cuddled the kitties some more… 🙂
I think Ninja has an old looking face for a kitten, and she’s blacker than Blackie. 🙂 She is also THE most darling kitten ever. When she hears me come outside she comes running and begins purring immediately. She lets us cradle her like a baby in our arms. Basically I’m head over heels for this kitten. Oh and she has such pretty brown eyes. 🙂
I didn’t expect to love these kittens quite so much, we mostly got them to help control our small rodent population outside. But they came with such sweet personalities they have thoroughly captured all our hearts. And, for the record, they aren’t afraid of Juno! I think some people felt pretty sorry for them when we first got them, because she does tend to over-love animals. But they seem to be sweeter for all the man-handling, go figure!
After lunch we discovered that our afternoon plans had fallen through. The kids were pretty disappointed at first, but with school done and a clean house we were free to play all the rest of the day!
First was game time…
Then I had a bit of an epiphany. I could do the art program I bought for next year through the summer. What? What? I don’t know why it never occurred to me before, but I really struggle through the school year to maintain some of the “extra” subjects. As the year goes by all my good intentions are slowly reduced to English and Math. So today we did lesson one of our new art class! I think we’ll work our way through as much as we can this summer, which will lesson the load during the fall. It’s a DVD study for grade 2 level, but Juno will do it with us and I’ll just help her when needed. We completed the first project- a colour wheel, and I wrote down the supplies needed for project 2.
After that we headed outside, spread a blanket in the shade, shared a snack and read a bit from Beezus and Ramona.
We’ve read a ton of Beverly Cleary books this year and the kids just love them. I laugh a lot through the Ramona books in particular. Juno is 110% Ramona, and I am Beezus. Always trying to explain or hide the craziness of Ramona… frustrated by the stubbornness of her, amazed by the originality of her and her ability to get her own way! 🙂 Anyway, they have been fun to read this year. I’ll be sad when we get to the end of them! We are on the last one we own, but I’ll keep my eye out at Value Village for more.
Made this Chocolate Banana Bread for dessert tonight (minus the chocolate chips). It takes a crazy amount of sugar for banana bread, but of course the taste made it worth it! 🙂
My tendency is to fill our week with plans and busyness, but lately I’ve really been loving the quiet home days. Our gas budget is pretty tight these days with running to sports games almost every evening, so I think our summer will be filled with lots of home time like today. Which is just fine. 🙂 I have good company and beauty all around out here!
Jon’s been taking a class every night this week to get his gun licence, but he just finished and got home… so now it’s time for a little Doctor Who!
